I am happy to be able to share Kirtan, a yoga and meditation practice that originated in my home country and very close to my heart. Even though this practice originated in India, coming together in community to sing together has been part of all cultures. I would like to invite all of you to come and try this form of meditation to support your regular mindfulness practice. I will be accompanied by James Rutter who is a software engineer and a gifted musician. He plays many instruments including the guitar and tabla (Indian drums), which he learned to play from great Indian teachers.
We would like to create a meditate space using sound and silence. Come and give it a try.
What is Kirtan?
Kirtan is a call-and-response form of singing, usually accompanied with instruments. The chants are usually mantras or phrases from Sanskrit, one of the most ancient languages. Some of the noted benefits of repeating a word or phrases in this form of singing help to stabilize the mind, cultivate focus, inner calm and connection. I have found this practice deeply nurturing, one that opens my heart and mind to all that is good in all of us.
Do I need any experience to participate?
You don’t need any prior experience or any talent to participate and benefit from this.

Join the Mindfulness Meditation before Kirtan
There will be a mindfulness meditation practice prior to the Kirtan from from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. If you have taken any mindfulness class before you are welcome to attend that before joining the Kirtan. You can read more about mindfulness meditation gathering here.
